Six Mistakes To Avoid When You're Painting A Room In Your Home

About Me
Beautiful Hanging Baskets

Like my mom, I’ve never been good at gardening. Sadly, I usually have extreme difficulties keeping plants and flowers alive. Surprisingly, my sister is an extremely talented agriculture teacher. Her hobby is growing flowers. My sister understands my lack of gardening talents. For this reason, she gives me a few hanging baskets of geraniums each year. She knows that these flowers are easy to maintain. Thankfully, I seem to have success growing these gorgeous flowers. They bloom nearly all year on my front porch. On this blog, I hope you will discover the easiest plants and flowers to grow. Enjoy!

Six Mistakes To Avoid When You're Painting A Room In Your Home

Giving the walls of the interior of your home a new paint job can revitalize the look and feel of your rooms. However, you need to avoid mistakes that could make the job harder than it should be or compromise the quality of the end results.

The following are six mistakes to avoid when you're painting a room in your home.

Not testing the paint before committing your whole wall to it

It's impossible to know exactly how a certain paint is going to look on your wall surface until you test a little of it. Before deciding for sure on a paint color, you can test a little patch of it on a small portion of your wall.

When you test paint out before committing, you'll know exactly how it's going to look in your interior both during the daytime and at nighttime. Then, you can always change your mind and opt for another paint type if you decide that the paint you experimented with isn't quite what you were expecting.

Neglecting to adequately prep your interior

Never underestimate the importance of prepping your wall surface and room. Prep your wall surface by putting down a primer to prevent blemishes on the wall from showing through.

Also, prep the room by putting painter's tape down over trim and putting tarps or plastic covers down over your floor to prevent damage from paint drips.

Always opting for neutral colors

A lot of homeowners are scared of being bold in their color choice and therefore always opt for neutral colors like off-white and beige. However, it's good to choose a bold color in one or two walls of your home to keep your overall decor vibrant and dynamic.

Not calculating the amount of paint you need accurately

It's highly inconvenient to run out of paint before you've finished the job. That's why it's always a good idea to purchase a little more paint than you should need. You can use online paint calculators to help you determine how much paint you should need.

Trying to roll before brushing

The correct way to paint a room is to brush paint on the corners and edges that the roller can't reach first. Then, you use the roller to fill in the open spaces. This will create a smoother finish than trying to roll first and brush afterward.

Buying cheap supplies

Invest in quality supplies for the best-quality paint job. Lower-quality paint and brushes will usually cost you down the road. Lower-quality paint will chip and stain more easily, and lower-quality brushes and rollers won't apply paint as smoothly and uniformly as they should.
