Should You Build Your Walkway From Limestone Pavers?

About Me
Beautiful Hanging Baskets

Like my mom, I’ve never been good at gardening. Sadly, I usually have extreme difficulties keeping plants and flowers alive. Surprisingly, my sister is an extremely talented agriculture teacher. Her hobby is growing flowers. My sister understands my lack of gardening talents. For this reason, she gives me a few hanging baskets of geraniums each year. She knows that these flowers are easy to maintain. Thankfully, I seem to have success growing these gorgeous flowers. They bloom nearly all year on my front porch. On this blog, I hope you will discover the easiest plants and flowers to grow. Enjoy!

Should You Build Your Walkway From Limestone Pavers?

A walkway can add both character and functionality to your backyard. It can break up the greenery in a large yard and make it easier for you to walk out to a grill area, a garden, a pool, or whatever else you might have in your backyard. Many homeowners are choosing to make their walkways from limestone pavers. Indeed, these are a good choice for many yards, but they are not the only choice, so definitely consider the following pros and cons before you order your own set.

Pro: Limestone pavers have plenty of texture.

You don't want pavers that get slippery when wet, because then you'll just end up walking next to them on the grass to avoid slipping, which totally defeats their purpose! As long as you keep them clean, limestone pavers tend to be pretty textured and grippy, which helps keep you from sliding, even after a rainstorm.

Con: Limestone is a bit plain-looking.

Limestone has a simple look and a light grayish-tan color. If you like this look, then it's really not a con. But if you are looking for walkway options that give you a little more artistic license and flexibility in design, there may be a better option than limestone — like tile or travertine.

Pro: Limestone is inexpensive.

You can spend a small fortune on high-end tiles for a walkway, or you can buy limestone for a song and a dance. If you're on a limited budget, limestone allows you to get pavers down sooner without having to save for as long. And if one of the pavers ever cracks or becomes damaged, you can replace it for just a few bucks.

Con: Limestone can grow algae.

You will need to power wash or scrub your pavers at least once a year to keep algae growth down. It's a porous surface that attracts algae.

Pro: Limestone pavers don't get too hot.

Thanks in part to their lighter color, limestone pavers don't hold onto a lot of heat in the summer, which means you can walk on them barefoot without burning yourself. This is especially nice if you have a pool in your yard and plan on having the walkway connect the pool to your home.

So, do limestone pavers sound like a good choice for your walkway? If so, contact a local landscaping supply store, and see what pavers they have in stock.
